Bench Time with .308 Load Workup

I've been spending some quality bench time working on my .308 load development. Currently testing various powder charges with 168gr FMJ bullets. I'd love to see what others are using for their .308 setups or any tips for finding that sweet spot.

Hello, I have a 308 barrel for my Savage LRP and I have communicated with several high ranking Palma shooters. Some of the basics they live by: Varget powder and loads which are hot and -.010 to -.020 off the lands.

I like 42 grains of Varget with a 175-grain SMK for my .308. It shoots sub-MOA at 200 yards in my Tikka T3x.

What's your rifle's twist rate, brass and primer choice, and target accuracy so I can suggest powders and charge ranges for your 168-gr .308 loads?

I use 41 grains of 4895 with a Winchester large rifle primer using Winchester brass Seat the bullet .02 inches from the start of the rifling...your rifle may vary with bullet seating to determine the OAL, but .02" from the rifling is a good start...also experiment with .01" & .03" seating...I use 5 shot groups at 100 yards to determine if the accuracy is acceptable & then move the target out to the zero yardage I want. Is the 168 gr bullet you are using is a match bullet? The reason I ask is that is you are just punching paper with these loads then I recommend that you use neck sized brass with no crimp...this is good only if your rifle is a bolt or single shot.
