Hello, I'm a new member to this forum and a shooter for over 60 years.

There are no good safe places to shoot nearby in my opinion. I drive to the NRA Whittingon Center near Raton once a month during the warm weather. We spend two or three days there in one of the founders' cabins or our camper van. I'm retired so no problem, my wife and I enjoy the ride. Best of all we escape from Santa Fe!

Sorry about the drive, but what a facility. You have likely already been there, but if not, check out the St. James Hotel just south out of Cimarron, and the Ernest Thompson Seton Memorial Library at Philmont Scout Ranch. My old Scout council -- Mt. Rainier in Seattle-Tacoma -- did a 50 miler at Philmont the summer of 1968. It was my first taste of New Mexico and it stayed with me.
