Surplus 7.62x54R was my go-to for years maybe because it is dirt cheap and I didn't mind that it was corrosive since I cleaned my guns. But the good times ended when the spam cans became harder to find and prices went up.

I used to shoot 7.62x54R through my Mosin without a second thought, the cleaning was part of the fun.

In Albuquerque in the 1950’s at Cooks Sporting Goods on Central Ave. you used to be able to buy Military Surplus Ammo (and I quote because I still have the container) “192 Cal. .30 Cartridges AP M2 8RD Clips Bandoleers Lot LC 134707” .30-06 rounds for $20.00!😮 That price included the M-1 clips in the cloth over the shoulder bandoleers, and the waterproof metal hinged can. If you didn’t want the AP rounds, you could get the same deal with lead center FMJ rounds, but they were still in the metal linked machine gun belts and you had to pull the cartridges out of the links.
