We have a nice little county shooting range in Santa Clara, just east of Silver City, with targets out to 1,000 yards and a single trap and skeet range. When I lived in Alamogordo, I worked for the Otero County range -- the Sidney Paul Gordon Shooting Range -- in La Luz, one of the best ranges I have been to anywhere.

We have been thinking of selling our house in Santa Fe and moving to Alamogordo.

I really liked Alamogordo. Lots of retired and active duty military folks, stunning setting at the foot of the Sacramentos, cool and refreshing Cloudcroft at 8,000 feet just 25 minutes to the east, White Sands about 25 minutes to the west, Oliver Lee State Park about 25 minutes to the south and Three Rivers Petroglyphs 35 minutes north. And having a glass of wine on the patio at Heart of the Desert pistachio orchards -- priceless.
My daughter grew up in Santa Fe and of course it has a tremendous amount of culture and history to offer. But I think Alamo is an overlooked gem.
