Bolt or semi-auto for accuracy

Bolt guns still win for pure consistency, especially past intermediate distances. Semis have come a long way, but fewer moving parts and a solid lockup matter when precision counts. I trust bolts when I care about first-round hits.

Yeah, no doubt. Bolts are stupid accurate and predictable. Semis are fun but when it counts, I trust a bolt gun way more.

A good bolt gun just has a predictability to it once you start stretching distances and reading conditions carefully.

Bolt guns usually edge out in consistency and lockup but modern semis are close enough for most real-world accuracy needs under practical conditions.

Yeah bolts often win in repeatable precision but modern semi-autos perform well enough that for most practical shooting situations, the difference in accuracy is negligible

I had a precision semi build that genuinely competed with my bolt gun at distance but it took way more work and money to get there. Bolt guns just start honest without needing convincing.

When first-round hits are the only thing that count, it’s hard to argue with the fact that fewer variables always win.

Semi-automatic rifles have gotten a lot better at practical hunting ranges but when you push past 500 yards, the mechanical reliability of bolt actions still shows in the data.
