How do you prevent condensation and rust in winter?

I didn't know that when warm air hits cold metal, it makes water until I saw rust on my stuff. What I do now is to let my gear get used to the cold slowly, and I wipe everything down before I put it away. How do you prevent rust?

For many years I have used Birchwod Casey Barricade Rust Preventer to prevent rust and/or remove fingerprints on my firearms and tools, and it really works (it is also a very light lubricant You apply a light coat on the metal's surface..and it is not "greasy" like oils or other products. It doesn't leave a carrier residue like WD-40. My last gun cleaning procedure is to run a wet Barricade patch through a dry bore and wipe them firearm's surface with it AND put the firearm in a silicone treated gun sock AND store place it in an dry area where the temperature does not widely vary. I have a couple of "safe queens" that haven't been shot in a couple of years, and they are rust free because of the above described procedure. You can get Barricade and gun socks online at Midway or some other similar site.

Letting gear acclimate and wiping it down works wonders keeps rust off and prolongs the life of your metal parts.

Most of mine are stainles so its less of a problem. I prefer a good synthetic like a lightweight Amsoil product.
