Most people think of fixed blades as something you only carry outdoors but a small one with a good sheath can work just fine day to day. There are no moving parts, and retention can be excellent. It really comes down to your environment and what makes sense for you.

Blade design makes a big difference. Penny-wise, do you carry a blade designed primarily to thrust or primarily to cut?
The only thing I carry consistently is a Leatherman. Better than nothing. To a lifelong expert at losing knives, a closable sheath is critical.

Honestly, if it clips, folds, or closes, it stands a better chance than anything else I’ve owned 😄

I began carrying a small, fixed-blade knife and I haven't gone back to anything else since..
