I ran a simulated power outage for 48 hours at home and found out our backup lighting was inadequate, our food supply was fine and I really missed the internet. But it was a useful exercise.

That’s a great test, now you know what to improve before a real outage hits.

Hopefully, you have gas. When I was remodeling the house, I had to break out the Coleman stove and lanterns to make it thru the week. Had some of that 25 yr storage food, so I tried a bag. That was like eating straight from a bag of salt. That food may store a long time, but boy was it nasty.

I believe that the reason some politicians want to make houses all electric is because they can easily throw the light switch. Not so much with gas.

One needs to hunker down (shelter in place) for 2 weeks while the sheep kill each other for the scrapes.

Thats exactly what the politicians want.

No need to run "simulated" power outages where I live. They have and do happen too often. High in the mountains and
weather and trees work hard on our elect distribution system and it consists of many many sq miles of northern NM. Co-Op.
Some years back after a 70 hour outage (not simulated) my lovely bride requested two things for her birthday and our anniversary.
1.. I want a back up generator.
2.. I want a freezer that I don't have to stick my ass up in the air and dive upside down in to find stuff.
She got both go figure.
A 12 KW Generac system and a big ol' upright freezer. She wanted Direct TV and the well pump to fill the toilet tanks
as often as needed.
All of our heat is propane and does not require electricity to function. 500 gal propane tank and I prebuy my gas.
Last fall I pre purchased 1200 gallon for $1.86 a gallon. Still have 310 gallon on the contract.
I am not a "survivorist but I do intend to survive as long as it seems like a good idea to do so. I also want to survive
in a "happy" environment.
