Finished my taxes over the weekend; and the checks are in the mail. But as a retiree, neither the State nor the Feds made it easy for finding our deductibles.
First, the Feds give us a 1040 (Senior) form for filling. This has all of the same questions/line items as the standard blue form except it is in large print. The $6000 extra deducible Trump gave us was not on this "Senior" form, but was hidden in the Schedule 1-A. The 1040 directions gave little help in finding this line item.
The State allows seniors to deduct our Social Security dividends, but not on the standard Pit-1 form. One must peruse thru the Pit-Adj form to find that line item deduction.
Finding both of these deductions saved me a few thousand dollars, but they didn't make it easy.
