I don't use one because of the reasons you site above. However, bipods do come in handy if you are hunting in static situations, such as: some varmint hunting ( static prone), or posting (waiting for the game to come to you). If I have the time for the shot I use a sitting or kneeling position, but if you have to take the shot at a moving target, or situation that requires a quick shot, then an off-hand stance would probably be the only alternative...try practicing your off-hand stance using your sling to steady your shot,..it does take practice, but once mastered it is invaluable; or,when standing, pressing your rifle fore end against a tree trunk if available.
