I used to leave it at the range but now I collect every piece for reloading. It is truly mazing how much brass you go through once you start paying attention. Do you save your brass or leave it?

I save most rifle brass if it is boxer-primed. I clean up and dispose of Berdan stuff.
I keep revolver brass and some semi-auto brass: .45 usually, .30 Super Carry always when I had one, but just can't get religion on 9mm for some reason. I don't have a progressive press any more and it takes so long to load enough to shoot, and then you shoot it so fast ...

Ever since I started reloading, I cannot leave brass behind. When you see how much you have picked up over time, it is an eye opener.

When I worked at the Otero County Shooting Range in La Luz, part of the job was sweeping up and sorting brass. The once-fired factory brass in popular rifle calibers we bagged and sold to reloaders but the rest went into five-gallon buckets until we had a full pickup load. One of us would then drive down to El Paso and sell it to the best-paying scrap yard. I remember one load I took brought the range more than $2,000, which we used to pay for gravel for our roads and parking lot. It does have value just as metal.

Once you start saving brass, every shiny case suddenly feels like found treasure.

Who knew tossing brass could turn into a mini treasure hunt for cash and gravel upgrades?
